How to Make your Creations More Interesting If you are a lyricist, try composing your own musical accompaniment sometimes and others, try making the lyrics to a pre-recorded beat. For beat-makers, try making one after  the lyrics have been made for an added challenge. Or do them before but compose your own lyrics. If you're a solo performer, try a duet, or a group performance. For those of you in instrumental, jazz it up a bit! Add an extra instrument, or take away one.  Play around to make your sure your Music is at its peak all the time!

Songwriting Tip #4

Surround yourself with people who care about your music, and will support you throughout the composing process. Though those friends who tease you all the time can be fun to hang out with, if they repeatedly tease you for being musical, or put down your songs, it will eventually get to your head that your music isn't good, and get to their head that it's okay to tease you. Either tell people the way you feel and put them into a position where they know that what they are doing is stunting your growth as a musician or separate yourself from them. When you are with people who care and support you, your self-confidence is boosted and you can compose and perform your very best! Fighting Songwriter's Block Arguably the most stressful part of a composer's job. Days filled with endless sorrow, as you've found out you simply can't scrape up anything half decent, wait in the shadows.  A good many songwriters, get something called the "Second Verse Curse". What happens is that they write a first verse, which they are very proud of, and then are at a loss about what to write for the second verse, and no matter how hard they try, can't come up with a decent "sequel" to that amazing first verse.  I get this, but more with Choruses. If I write the chorus first, I'll be at a loss for what to write for the verses, and will ultimately end up with a beautiful chorus and ridiculously bad verses. If you get the infamous "Second Verse Curse", you could pretend   you're just writing another first verse, or you can switch up the POV: First Verse- Boy POV Second Verse- Girl POV Whatever your technique,...

Songwriting Tip #2

Find a place where you can make the perfect composition. I prefer quiet spaces, or at least places where no one is talking to me. My last 3 songs were written, while putting away laundry (alone, by myself, in my quiet room), in the grocery store (alone*, with no one yapping in my ear), and in my room (at midnight while everyone else was asleep -no noise). But your style may be completely different. Some songwriters like looking out a window for inspiration.  Perhaps you like loud rooms filled with people so that you can feel the energy buzzing in the air and convey that to your music. Or maybe you prefer listening to favourite songs of yours at full blast while searching for inspiration.  Or possibly, you do what do those people in movies do and frolick around in a courtyard in a haze letting the music wash over you.   Whatever you do, be comfortable with your surroundings, and position yourself in an effective spot where your...

Record your music melody, lyric, tune, chord progression or whatever, as soon as it comes to you. Music won't stay in your head forever, and you may end up losing that piece of musical masterpiece just as quickly as it came to you. Whether it be on Manuscript paper, Voice Memos, or a scrap of paper from who-knows-where. Remember, remembering is always better than forgetting.

Hello mortals,  Today marks the second edition of my bi-weekly post: Weird Music - Can you do it too? Every other Sunday I will choose a weird or unheard of type of music, from singing cats to playing music with egg-shells, and give you a brief how-to. Without further adieu, introducing... *Drum roll*  Jingles! You all recognize this, right? Many people do not know, but jingles are actually a type of music. (Some people don’t even know they’re called jingles!) Here I will give you a short tutorial on how to make your own catchy jingle. Step 1- As you all know, those catchy jingles at the end of commercials can get stuck in your head for hours. This is in fact their purpose. For you to create one, you first need to create a catchy tune. I recommend humming and playing around with some random tunes for a while -Around people you know and won’t think you’re crazy. Eventually (hopefully), one will stick. If you don't have that much time, take out a piano or keyb...

Queen of the World knows her Music History: Guitars

Good day, my lieges, Today will be my first post on instrument history! Maybe not as interesting as the other posts, but important and helpful nonetheless. Off to the Post! This week's topic is: Guitars Guitars -A brief History The guitar (though most people think it descended from the lute as the guitar is part of that family) descended from the Spanish instrument called guitarra latina ( also referenced as guitarra ladina.). The guitarra  latina is either a descendant (though not a direct one) of the  gittern , an instrument that was prominent throughout the early 13 to the late 15th centuries, is a  Roman instrument called the fidicula, which was introduced to Spain and rechristened as guitarra latina, or, as written in an 1855 book, was a vigola  and then a vihuela de mano  before becoming the guitarra latina.  The early guitar ( gl) , had 4 strings and was tuned C-F-A-D' similar to the tuning of the lute and its Sp...

MarshMell0's Weird Music - Can you do it too?

Hello mortals,  Today marks the start of a bi-weekly post: Weird Music - Can you do it too? Every other week I will choose a weird or unheard of type of music, from singing cats to playing music with egg-shells, and give you a brief how-to. Without further adieu, introducing... *Drum roll* Throat Singing! As you all probably know, most people can only sing one note at a time. Tuvan Throat Singers are able to sing two-four notes at once! The result ends up sounding like a Tibetan singing bowl when done correctly. Listen to this guy:  Kongar-ol Ondar on TV This is also known as Polyphonic Overtone singing, and I have educated myself by the ways of many tutorials, just to be able to show this to you!  Step 1- Find the lowest note you are comfortable singing. Step 2- Sing the vowel transition U-E (U as in two, E as in me) in one long breath, then sing E-U, also in one breath. Remember to do it very slowly. Step 3- You will almost definitely not get this righ...
