Songwriting Tip #3

Fighting Songwriter's Block

Arguably the most stressful part of a composer's job. Days filled with endless sorrow, as you've found out you simply can't scrape up anything half decent, wait in the shadows.

A good many songwriters, get something called the "Second Verse Curse". What happens is that they write a first verse, which they are very proud of, and then are at a loss about what to write for the second verse, and no matter how hard they try, can't come up with a decent "sequel" to that amazing first verse.

I get this, but more with Choruses. If I write the chorus first, I'll be at a loss for what to write for the verses, and will ultimately end up with a beautiful chorus and ridiculously bad verses.

If you get the infamous "Second Verse Curse", you could pretend  you're just writing another first verse, or you can switch up the POV: First Verse- Boy POV Second Verse- Girl POV

Whatever your technique, the best thing to do is to keep at it. You can't make an entire verse nevermind an entire song if you quit when the going gets hard.

Don't let a bit of writing block keep you down, go at it!
