MarshMell0's Weird Music - Can you do it too?
Hello mortals,
Today marks the start of a bi-weekly post: Weird Music - Can you do it too?
Every other week I will choose a weird or unheard of type of music, from singing cats to playing music with egg-shells, and give you a brief how-to.
Without further adieu, introducing... *Drum roll* Throat Singing!
As you all probably know, most people can only sing one note at a time. Tuvan Throat Singers are able to sing two-four notes at once! The result ends up sounding like a Tibetan singing bowl when done correctly.
Listen to this guy: Kongar-ol Ondar on TV
This is also known as Polyphonic Overtone singing, and I have educated myself by the ways of many tutorials, just to be able to show this to you!
Step 1- Find the lowest note you are comfortable singing.
Step 2- Sing the vowel transition U-E (U as in two, E as in me) in one long breath, then sing E-U, also in one breath. Remember to do it very slowly.
Step 3- You will almost definitely not get this right the first time. Try practising in the shower or when driving (or being driven!), as the noise around you helps you notice the overtones in your own voice.
The End! You've just had a basic introduction to polyphonic overtone singing.
(Insert humorous valediction here)
